The hell is this???

This website is coded almost entirely from my own two dyke hands and noob understanding of code. I was drawn to Neocities for its dedication to a free and accessible web, empowering people to carve their own space on the Internet and reject soul-sucking algorithms and advertising.

It's inspiring to see how much of the Neocities community shares this sentiment, creating spaces meant for joy and fulfillment and paying homage to the neon garishness and trainwreck (affectionate) of the old web, before it was taken over by profit-hungry corporations. This website is my own love-letter to those values, and all those etching their mark in this meaningless, agonizing turmoil of existence. Here, punk isn't dead, but cringe culture sure as fuck is.

With that, I leave you with a collection of the Internet's curiosities.

“Men cannot sit back and say, 'Well, I'm not rich and powerful; that's not me.' It is you - if you are not actively dismantling the patriarchy, you are factually benefiting from it. Are you uncomfortable? Good. You should be. Discomfort is a reminder that privilege is being questioned, and this revolutionary moment is one in which we must defy, disobey, and disrupt the patriarchy, everywhere.”
Folks on neocities that have inspired me in my website journey :)

Websites run by some generous folks and communities, which gave me many of the resources I used. You can find specific links to each asset when viewing my source code.

Sadgrl Online // Where I started. Provides a layout builder, noobie explanations to webculture, and free graphic goodies.

Yesterlinks // An archive of little corners of the internet to explore.

Art Bits from Hypercard // An archive of graphics from Apple's old hypermedia system, Hypercard. It's before my time...the art is super cool though.

Windows98 Icons // What it says in the title; a collection of Windows98 icons.

Halftone Hospital // A library of free brushes, textures, and other assets geared toward comic-making, run by an artist local to me.

Internet Bumper Stickers // What it says in the title; a collection of internet bumper stickers.

Web Badges World // What it says in the title; a collection of internet web badges.

GifCities // Internet Archive's collection of GIFs preserved from the now defunct GeoCities.

Cameron's World // An homage to the old web; "a web-collage of text and images excavated from the buried neighbourhoods of archived GeoCities pages (1994–2009)."

Spriter's Resource // Library of sprites from video games, ripped by community contributers.

Cursors 4U | RealWorld Graphics // Two cursor libraries.

Resource Boy // A website that provides textures, mockups, etc. under personal and commercial licenses.

Free underground educational resources and shadow libraries. Knowledge is power and should not be gatekept behind a paywall!

Fun weird places on the internet.

RetroCrush // A library of old anime to watch and explore.

Zophar's Domain // A library of ripped video game OSTs.>

Atlas Obscura // A database logging obscure landmarks and unusual places to visit all across the world.
